Bitcoin fee calculator: what a transaction costs right now
Live fee rates from the mempool, turned into sats and dollars for the transaction you are about to send — by address type, inputs and outputs.
- Next block 3 sat/vB 422 sats · $0.35
- Within an hour 1 sat/vB 141 sats · $0.12
- Rates read from mempool.space · typical send, 141 vB
Sizes are estimates from reference values per address type (a transaction you build may differ by a few bytes). Fee rates are public forecasts from mempool.space, not a promise: a block can be faster or slower than its average ten minutes.

Why they differ
What decides a Bitcoin fee
-
01
Size, not amount
Miners are paid for block space. Moving 0.001 BTC or 10 BTC from one input costs the same; spending fifty small receipts costs fifty times the input.
-
02
The queue in front of you
Blocks come about every ten minutes and hold a fixed amount of data. When more is waiting than fits, the highest rates go first — the rate is an auction, and it moves by the hour.
-
03
Your address type
SegWit and Taproot inputs weigh far less than legacy ones: the same payment costs about 40% less from a bc1q… wallet than from a 1… address. The table above shows the gap at today’s rates.
-
04
When you tidy up
A wallet full of small amounts is expensive to spend. Consolidating them into one — in a quiet hour, at the economy rate — makes every later transaction cheaper.
FAQ
Bitcoin fees, in short
What does sat/vB mean?
Satoshis per virtual byte — the price of block space. A transaction’s fee is its size in virtual bytes (vB) times the rate you choose. A typical send from a native SegWit wallet is about 141 vB, so at 3 sat/vB it costs about 422 sats.
How much is a Bitcoin transaction fee right now?
For a typical send (one input, two outputs, native SegWit) about 422 sats to make the next block and about 141 sats to confirm within the hour — $0.35 and $0.12. Rates read at 12:01 UTC from mempool.space.
Does sending more bitcoin cost a higher fee?
No. The fee depends on the size of the transaction in bytes, not on the amount. Sending 0.001 BTC or 10 BTC from the same single input costs the same — what grows the size is the number of inputs: a wallet full of small receipts pays for each one it spends.
Why does my wallet show a different fee?
Wallets estimate with their own data and round differently, and your real transaction may have more inputs than the one here. The rate in sat/vB is the number to compare; the size is what your wallet knows best.
What if my transaction is stuck?
If your wallet supports Replace-By-Fee, you can re-send it with a higher fee; if not, the receiver — or you, on your change output — can speed it up with Child-Pays-For-Parent. What to do, step by step.
What is the lowest fee I can pay?
Most nodes now relay transactions paying well under 1 sat/vB, but a bare-minimum fee confirms only when the mempool empties — hours or days when it is busy. For anything time-sensitive, such as a swap deposit, pay at least the one-hour rate.
